Water in movies

There have been many documentaries and films produced that make use of human beings' need for water as overarching themes, as well as the danger water can present. Since humankind became aware of the preciousness of this natural resource, it has held a mystique. While there are far too many quality films to list in one place, some of the better, more informative, and more entertaining ones are worth a mention.

ACTION ADVENTURE

Settings deep underwater instantly provide an exhilarating sense of danger and tension wherever they're featured. Two fantastic classics which make use of this device are the "Thunderball" (1965) Starring Sean Connery as James Bond. In Thunderball, the famous MI6 Agent tracks down a pair of atomic bombs that have been stolen by a sinister criminal organization, with stunning visuals around the island of Nassau and an unforgettable underwater battle scene. From the same era of film making, "The Deep" (1977) is the cinematic story of a young couple discover millions of dollars worth of Spanish gold that had been lost for centuries, as well as valuable cargo from a World War II-era wreck, and the resulting struggle with local criminals for not only the treasure, but their very lives.

DRAMA

In a more recent classic in film making, Tom Hanks plays a busy FedEx employee stranded in the middle of the pacific ocean on a desert island. "Cast Away" (2000) is an exploration of life, love, and the human spirit, as well as a critique of the fast-lane lifestyle many of today's working people lead. For darker themes, "Sanctum" (2011) portrays the story of a team of divers undertaking a cave-diving expedition. While they initially enjoy the visages of nature in the massive cave network under the water near Papua New Guinea, a large storm floods several of the cave sections, turning the expedition into a desperate fight for survival that ultimately claims many of the divers' lives.

WATER HEALTH BENEFITS AND QUALITY

"The Human Body" is not primarily focused on water, but the human body; however, by focusing on the inner workings of the healthy human body the importance of water becomes readily apparent. The health benefits of water are a constant theme in any analysis of human physiology, and this documentary is no exception. Sit back with a bottle of the world's most precious commodity!
